Because Nitrile is cheap, and wear and tear resistant it is favoured by professionals in the medical and dentistry practice. They offer slightly less comfort and dexterity than latex, but they are highly puncture resistant, so when working with sharp apparatus such as needles and scalpels, Nitrile are guaranteed better safety. It is estimated that 6% of people have latex allergies which can range from a mild rash to an anaphylactic shock. Although the medical practitioner using the gloves may not have a latex allergy, they don’t want to risk harming a patient, so Nitrile gloves are now more widely used in medical procedures.
Nitrile gloves can even be made to look good, as they’re now available in a choice of colours; check out our selection of Disposable Nitrile gloves which are available in nearly every colour of the rainbow. Like all materials Nitrile does have its disadvantages; according to DentistryIQ many dentistry patients complain that Nitrile gloves smell unpleasant, they have quite a potent chemical smell. Now an American dentistry supplies company has created scented nitrile gloves aimed at paediatric dentists and orthodontists. The gloves are from a range of children’s dentist supplies called “Kulorful”. Ironically they only come in blue, but they allegedly smell like cookies, sweets and ice cream. Children will be able to relax and even enjoy their trip to the dentist as they are transported to a wonderful world of sweet treats and will stop worrying about the possible painful dentist procedures.
Scented dentistry gloves have only been released at the start of this month so only time will tell if they will take off and if they may be extended to general purpose gloves. It’s certainly a well-intended plan to stop kids from hating the dentist, but most professionals won’t want to be haunted by wafting aromas of cake when they’ve got a tricky job to do. In the meantime, check out range of colourful all-purpose Nitrile gloves, that will help you get the job done safely and won’t leave you feeling hungry!
